From the Wiltshire Times, first published Tuesday 21st Mar 2006.
TROWBRIDGE is now the cheapest town in west Wiltshire to buy property with the average house price now at £165,522, compared to a national average of £191,430.
Prices of flats in the county town have now risen above £100,000, with an average price of £109,512 but are still quite affordable for many first-time buyers. A terraced property costs an average of £136,409, while you can expect to pay around £165,000 for a semi-detached house.
Due to the number of new developments in the town you can expect to pay as much as £240,000 for an average detached house and prices have been fairly stable for the past year.
Although average prices in Trowbridge have fallen slightly in the last six months, the planned regeneration in the town is likely to push prices back up again.
The county town is still a very good area for people looking for a buy-to-let investment as it offers value for money as well as close proximity to Bath and Chippenham and good road and rail links.
Over the last five years prices in Trowbridge have been pretty much in line with the national average price. It is only at the end of 2005 prices in the town started to dip.
