A GROUP of children have won a place in an international robot competition.
The Swindon Home Education Liberty Lego Team won at the regional competition at the County Ground in December and won the Best Robot Design award at the national competition held earlier this month in Loughborough.
The team will now compete at the Open European Championship in Holland in May.
This is a worldwide competition with 65 teams all battling it out to be crowned robot champions.
The First Lego league has been running since 1998. Children have to design, build and race their own robots made from Lego.
Organisers say it encourages children to develop their imaginations, solve real-world engineering challenges and learn to work in a team.
The team, comprising of 12 children aged eight to 15 will be using the same robot that they made in this forthcoming competition.
Susan Davies, the mother of team member Simon Davies, 13, said: "We are now looking for local sponsorship to help us fund this activity.
"The sponsorship will be used to pay for our equipment, transport costs, accommodation, entry fees, stationary, presentation materials and incidental costs."
If you would like to sponsor the team telephone Susan on 01666 510217.
