Let’s talk about it

From the Swindon Advertiser, first published Friday 6th Jan 2006.

AWARD nominee Rhys Evans admits he'll be happy to listen' should the keeper prove to be one of those Iffy Onuora seeks to begin contract talks with.

Evans, whose performances during the last month have propelled him on to the five-strong shortlist for the League One fans' player of the month accolade, is one of those whose present deal expires in the summer.

And if Onuora wants him to stay then he'll be more than ready to talk.

The 23-year-old said: "I guess it makes sense to be looking at the situation now.

"I'd be happy to listen and to talk. It's a first step."

While Onuora didn't even make the top three in the battle for manager of the month honours the award going to Oldham's Ronnie Moore the Swindonian custodian, pictured left, is up against a list of his peers which includes Swansea's Lee Trundle and Bournemouth's James Hayter for the players' award.

He said: "December was a massively important month for me and I'm obviously glad that it went well.

"We came through unbeaten and from a personal point of view, I haven't suffered any real reaction in terms of the injury.

"It's obviously nice to hear that fans have acknowledged your contribution but you never get too carried away.

"As for the gaffer, I don't think he needs an award to prove that he's making a difference."

Meanwhile, the manager has also hinted that the exit door could swing open if he is successful in capturing his transfer targets.

And deputy chairman Mark Devlin has been made aware that the business of addressing futures is about to get underway.

He said: "No doubt Iffy will come to us with his requirements and we'll take it from there."

Meanwhile Devlin has told the Swindon Advertiser that it is all quiet on the Fallon front.

He said: "There has been no further contact from any club regarding Rory."

Devlin does not want Town's star striker heading anywhere but boss Onuora has said other players could head out, either temporarily or permanently, depending on the state of his squad at the close of the January window.

The Town manager said: "It's something I will look at, depending on who we get in.

"I like to have options but it would be daft to have a bloated squad where people really aren't in my plans.

"If I felt that was the case then I would speak to people and say to individuals perhaps you could go out on loan or permanently."
