TWO rival bricklaying firms played against each other last week in a football fundraiser dubbed battle of the brickies.
The charity match between McBride and Joyce and Jerry Grogan raised £350 for Corsham Town Football Club.
Players swapped their hard hats for football kits for the match on Friday morning and now hope it will become an annual event.
Organiser Martin Joyce said: "It was brilliant, we had lads as young as 18 playing with 50 year olds. I'm heading towards 60 and I played for half an hour.
"The end score was a bit disappointing for us because we lost 12-1, but it was all good fun."
Mr Joyce said the opponents used to meet up at Christmas time for a meal, but this year decided to do something a bit different.
He said: "I used to play for Corsham Town, my last match was in 1977. I'm still involved and know how hard it is to raise money, so that's why we decided to donate something to the club. It has to pay for showers and electrics and things which can cost a lot.
"Thirty players turned up and donated £10 each and a few turned up and put £2 in the bucket to watch us.
"We're really pleased with the amount it raised, it should help the club out a bit. And the players all had an absolutely great day, hopefully we'll do it again next year."
