Big success for Bugsy Malone

From the The Wiltshire Gazette and Herald, first published Thursday 5th Jan 2006.

JOHN Bentley School's production of Bugsy Malone has played to a string of packed audiences.

Hundreds of parents, staff and students filled the crowd, as each of the six performances were sold out.

Auditions for the show, which ran from December 14 to 17, began back in June.

The Calne school's head of performance arts and show director Blayne Cooper was thrilled with the production.

He said the show had exceeded the original aim of equalising the success of the school's 2003 production of Oliver. "It has been a wonderful experience for all involved," he said.

"From what I and the production team witnessed last week, we feel that we have surpassed all expectations.

"The beauty of a school production is witnessing students from different year groups working together as a team and that has certainly happened during Bugsy.

"Cast, crew and band have worked wonderfully together and it has been not only my pleasure, but the pleasure of all the staff involved, to work with them on this project.

"For those of us involved, Bugsy Malone will live in our hearts."
