WALKERS have been rambling around Calne as part of a national drive to get more people out into the countryside.
Nearly 20 people enjoyed a seven-mile walk from Calne around the outskirts of Bowood on December 27.
The event was part of the Festival of Winter Walks, which is organised by the Ramblers' Association.
Kathleen Parkinson, secretary of the Chippenham branch of the association, was pleased with the response of people in the aftermath of Christmas Day.
"The walk was a success," she said. "It all went very well, it was a nice day and we all enjoyed it.
"It was on the public footpath around the outskirts of Bowood.
"It took about four hours all together, including lunch, where we stopped overlooking the golf course and sat for half an hour."
Mrs Parkinson said the local group is well supported, with about 200 members across the area.
She hoped to see more people taking up rambling and said the group is always open to new members.
