Care home is bidding for new extension

From the The Wiltshire Gazette and Herald, first published Thursday 5th Jan 2006.

STAFF at Kingston House Residential Home in Derry Hill are hoping the green light will be given for a new development that would allow them to care for more people.

Plans have been submitted for alterations and an extension to the home in Lansdowne Crescent to create a new special care unit for people with dementia.

The new wing would be able to take another ten patients and would provide them with their own set of facilities.

There would be a separate dining room, as well as a lounge, kitchen and also an enclosed garden for the residents to walk around safely.

Kingston House is operated by Greensleeves Homes Trust, who are a charitable organisation that run 17 homes across the country.

Kingston House manager Carol Mather said if the proposals are approved then it would be a real boost to the care they could provide. We want to give the proper care to people," she said.

"The actual plans include a little enclosed garden, so if they want to have a wander in safety they can. This is just a natural next step on because people are living much longer and there's a need for people with dementia to be cared for.

"It's all we would want for ourselves."

Mrs Mather praised Greensleeves for their continued focus on improving facilities at Kingston House. "Any excess money that comes in is always spent on facilities for the residents," she said. "During the last eight years, Kingston House has had a lot of money spent on it."

The home will be holding an open afternoon between 4pm and 8pm on Monday, January 9, for residents to speak to staff.
