From the The Wiltshire Gazette and Herald, first published Thursday 5th Jan 2006.
POLICE are hunting a man who left a New Year's Eve reveller with a cut on the head after an incident in the King's Head pub in Calne.
A 999 call at 3am on New Year's Day said a man had been stabbed and they found him outside the High Street pub with a cut on the head.
Police say the victim wasn't stabbed as originally reported but glassed, causing a minor injury.
He was taken to hospital for a check-up but was described as "walking wounded."
Police say they know the name of the alleged offender but attempts to locate him have so far been unsuccessful. Anyone with information is asked to call Calne Police on (01249) 654455.
Police in North Wiltshire are generally pleased at what they describe as an unusually quiet New Year.
Chippenham police attended 32 incidents between Thursday and Tuesday with other towns reporting a similar level. There were no serious incidents. The majority of crimes reported were criminal damage or domestic violence related.
A police spokesman said: "North Wiltshire over the festive period was relatively quiet from a policing perspective unusually more so than in previous years.
"We'd like to take this opportunity to wish residents a Happy New Year."
