I WAS not surprised to hear that Phil Young is to stand as a Tory in the May election. With his remarkable ability to obfuscate and issue misleading remarks, he'd fit in with the Tories in the council.

Coun Small did not say that the only way to get elected in May is to become a Tory. He said: "As an Independent (David Wren) would stand no chance (of being re-elected)."

Fortunately, we know that the people in Swindon are not as stupid as Mr Young thinks.
