Cathedral to benefit from repair grant

From the Salisbury Journal, first published Tuesday 31st Jan 2006.

SALISBURY Cathedral is to get £100,000 as part of £1m-worth of grants to be awarded by English Heritage this year to cathedrals around the country.

A total of 25 cathedrals will benefit from the grants, which will be used for repairs, with Salisbury getting the lion's share of £200,000 allocated to four cathedrals in the south-west.

This is the 16th round of English Heritage grants since it launched the cathedral awards in 1991, after a survey revealed the country's 61 cathedrals were facing a backlog of major repairs that they could not fund alone.
