Westside leave it late once again

Westside kept up their recent habit of scoring late in the game when they snatched an injury-time winner against AFC Trowbridge Youth.

Despite missing strikers Geoff Swatton and Ricky Hewittson, Westside wrapped up a 3-2 home win.

Westside took the lead midway through the half with a cross-cum-shot from Billy Sly that deceived the home keeper.

Devon Bryan then gave Westside a two-goal cushion before Booker Woodford pulled one back for Trowbridge.

Westside missed a chance to wrap up victory when Sly had his penalty saved.

And Woodford made Sly pay for the miss, levelling matters late in the game.

But comeback kings Westside clinched the points in dramatic fashion, Dave Rendel scoring in injury time.

Westside boss Joe O'Rourke was delighted with the result and said: "That was a great performance from the lads.

"We had to juggle the side about with our two strikers missing but the players that came in did a great job. I think that's the third game on the trot we have scored a late goal."

New College were not at the races according to manager Mark Teasdale after being trounced 5-0 by Warminster.

"We changed the formation a bit for the game but obviously it didn't work out and we were never in with a chance," said the disappointed College boss.

Tom Welch and Dave Watkins scored a brace each with Louis Sparey also on the score sheet.

Things are going from bad to worse for bottom club Purton Reserves who were hammered 9-0 by Marlborough Town.

Player-manager Barry Young faces a lengthy suspension and has handed the reins over to Clive Fuller who will be assisted to the end of the season by former manager Ray Wakely.

Steve Dean led the scoring spree with four goals along with Adam Legg (2), Robin Simpson (2) and one from Richard Jackson.

Aldbourne's top-of-the-table clash with leaders Down Ampney was postponed due to a frosty pitch.

Bromham boss John Boatman said he was considering his position after his side's 6-1 home defeat by Melksham.

He said : "It was not acceptable, we were sloppy and to be honest I was gutted by the performance."

Devizes dominated their game with Malmesbury Vics but only managed two goals Ben Giles with a bullet header in the first half and Scott Sarten soon after the restart.

Junior One leaders Wroughton scored four goals inside the first 10 minutes as they demolished visitors Minety 9-0.

Lee Curtis, Barry Dickens, Dave Webb and Matt Criddle all scored two goals each with Tom Dingle also netting.

Nearest rivals Pinehurst Olive Branch slipped up against visitors Stratton Rovers losing 5-1 Paul Webb completing a fine hat-trick for the visitors with Ashley Channing and Danny Wilcox completing the scoring.

Barron Heating got back to winning ways with a 4-1 victory over Biddestone thanks to goals from Arron Wilson, Joe Jenkins, Gavin Baron and Johnny Coole.

Wayne Petrie, David Brown and Danny Sealey, making his debut for the club, gave AFC Stratton a 3-1 win over Blyskawica.

Mark Gunter scored the only goal of the game to give Blunsdon United a 1-0 win over Westlecot United.

Swindon Asians were made to fight hard for their 5-3 win over bottom club Lower Stratton Rob Clarke, IanFawkes and John Harrowich scored for Stratton while Daniel Marcus (2), Devon McCullough, Vince Elliott and Ajah Sahota for the visitors.

Castle Combe and Marlborough shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw James Pope for the home side.

Chiseldon Castrol stretched their unbeaten run to 12 games by beating Blunsdon Reserves 3-2 in Junior Two.

Gary Donnelly's side swept into a three-goal lead courtesy of Graham Prictor (2) and Steve Leech before a spirited comeback by the visitors saw them score twice and leave the home side hanging on for victory.

Leaders AFC Rodbourne were beaten 5-3 at home by Bromham Reserves Steve Winchcombe with a hat-trick for the home side.

CHQ returned to second spot following a 2-1 win over Purton A, Fabian Daniels and a last-minute strike from Dave Legg doing the damage.

Westlecott Reserves beat Wroughton Reserves 6-4 in a 10-goal thriller, Blueprint beat Westside 5-1 and QT Swindon gained a 4-1 away victory over Stratton Rovers Reserves Andy Gardener notching a hat-trick and John Mapson on target.
