Tesco come to town

From the The Wiltshire Gazette and Herald, first published Monday 30th Jan 2006.

CONTOVERSIAL plans for a new Tesco supermarket in Tidworth have been given the green light by Kennet planners.

There are mixed feelings in the garrison town over the proposal for a Tesco on a green field site off Station Road.

The supermarket is planned as part of a bid to make Tidworth a more viable service centre.

Another supermarket like Tesco would help attract shoppers to Tidworth from places like Ludgershall, the Collingbournes and Burbage, Kennet regulatory committee heard on Thursday.

It has a Lidl shop already but as part of a move to make more people shop in Tidworth Tesco has been encouraged to move into the town.
