From the The Wiltshire Gazette and Herald, first published Monday 30th Jan 2006.

A 41-year-old man has been remanded in custody by a judge after being accused of robbing a Chippenham sub-post office in 2004.

Vivian Gilling was appearing at Swindon crown court accused of nineteen offences including robbing seven sub-post offices.

The Trowbridge man is said to have stolen more than £100,000 in raids at Chippenham, Trowbridge, Melksham and Bath.

Gilling, of no fixed abode, was appearing at Swindon crown court for a preliminary hearing after the case was committed by magistrates.

He is said to have robbed the Frome Road sub-post office in Trowbridge and the town's Alldays sub-post office in 2003.

The following year he is charged with robbing the Portway sub-post office in Frome, the Weston sub-post office in Bath, the Brook Road sub-post office in Trowbridge, the Lowden sub-post office in Chippenham and the Woodrow Road sub-post office in Melksham.

He faces further charges of burglary, conspiracy, handling stolen goods including a Rolex watch, and harbouring an escapee.

None of the charges were put to Gilling during the brief hearing and the case was adjourned to Friday April 7 when he is expected to enter pleas.
