NATIONALLY and locally the General Election was causing the parties great excitement but the man in the street seemed little interested in politics.

Tony Blair swept back into number ten and locally there was little change.

In Devizes and North Wiltshire Michael Ancram and James Gray were returned.

It was only in Swindon where there was any change of personnel but even here it was caused by Julia Drown who was replaced by Ann Snelgrove. Michael Wills was also returned in Swindon.
