THE FIRST day of the year bought just one bundle of joy to Chippenham Hospital's maternity unit this year.
Little Lilou Nuttall was born weighing 7lb 12oz at 7.20am just 20 minute after her mum Celine arrived at the hospital.
"She's a hungry little girl but she's doing really well," said proud dad Chris.
Mum and baby returned home to Chepstow Close in Cepen Park South on Monday to be greeted by the couple's two-and-a-half year old son Lucca.
"He's delighted with her and has said he will share all his toys and look after her," said Mr Nuttall. "He's been giving her lots of cuddles."
Mrs Nuttall went into labour at around 2.30am on New Year's Day and waited until 4am to go to Greenways.
But as the contractions were still manageable at 6.30am, the couple decided to return home for a rest.
"I think the car journey helped speed things up a bit," said Mr Nuttall. "We got home and turned straight around again. She was born 20 minutes after we got back to the hospital.
"We had two dates for her to be born December 28 and January 3 sos he''s arrived in the middle. It's quite nice that she's a New Year baby but it doesn't bother me either way really. We're just glad the waiting is over and it was a straightforward birth."
