Nobby night a great success

From the Salisbury Journal, first published Saturday 28th Jan 2006.

LAST night's Salisbury City sporting dinner with Nobby Stiles has been hailed as a great success by Whites boss Nick Holmes.

A packed Sarum Suite was entertained by the former Manchester United and England star and his comedian son John.

Stiles Snr reminisced about a glittering career that saw him win the World Cup with England in 1966 and the European Cup with Manchester United two years later.

An auction of football memorabilia proved highly successful, with England shirts signed by Stiles' fellow World Cup winners Geoff Hurst and Martin Peters attracting substantial bids.

Holmes said: "It was a really good night - probably one of the most successful ones we've held."

The City boss thanked all the sponsors, supporters and everyone at the club who had helped make the event such a success.
