EDDIE Young is the latest bright young thing from Swindon to burst onto our television screens.
A product of the Sixth Sense theatre group and Swindon Young Actors, Eddie, of Euclid Street, has just appeared in a prime time Saturday night drama.
The 19-year-old had a whale of a time playing mugger Travis King, who wreaked havoc in the BBC's Casualty.
He got the part after registering with a London acting agency.
Eddie said of his television alter ego: "He steals bags from the department and gets a broken nose."
He found the whole experience `strange but cool'.
He said: "It was fantastic. They were all really, really nice.
"I got everything mostly on the first take, but there was this one scene I had to do again and again when I was sat in casualty with a broken nose."
The young actor attended Commonweal School then Swindon College, and has always studied drama. He is taking a year out to apply to drama schools, while working part-time at the Savoy pub in Regent Circus.
Although he loved his experience in Casualty, Eddie confesses he loves performing on the stage rather than on the screen.
"Acting has always been something I wanted to do, but I think I will always prefer the theatre to television," he said.
As for the future, he desperately wants to attend a drama school.
He has applied to join the Bristol Old Vic, the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts (LAMDA), RADA and Guildhall.
But he said: "It is quite expensive. If I was to get in I would be looking to get some sponsorship."
He lives with his mother Victoria Young, and her partner Peter Dale in Euclid Street.
Mrs Young said she was delighted when she saw him on television.
"It was wonderful," she said. "He's always performed in things for years now, such as school plays or the Wyvern Theatre."
"I really want him to achieve it because it is all he has ever wanted to do."
